OSCEOLA COUNTY, Fla. /Florida Newswire/ -- Today, Colt's Manufacturing Co. LLC announced its commitment to create 63 jobs in Osceola County for its new regional headquarters and product manufacturing center.

OSCEOLA COUNTY, Fla. /Florida Newswire/ — Today, Colt’s Manufacturing Co. LLC announced its commitment to create 63 jobs in Osceola County for its new regional headquarters and product manufacturing center. The center will hire people for engineering and manufacturing jobs, among others. In 2012, Colt is projected to begin phasing in the first of 63 jobs paying an average salary of $45,060 to be created during the following three years. Governor Rick Scott and Colt’s Manufacturing Company President and CEO Lieutenant General M. William Keys USMC (Ret.) were joined by the Osceola County Board of County Commissioners for the announcement.

“As a supporter of new job creation and the Second Amendment, this announcement sends the clear message that Florida is both open for business and a defender of our right to bear arms,” Florida Governor Rick Scott said. “My primary responsibility as governor is to be our state’s chief advocate for job creation. My personal involvement in bringing Colt to Florida demonstrates my administration’s deep commitment to rebuilding our economy.”

Colt is making a $2.5 million capital investment in a vacant building, which the company will lease, that is owned by Osceola County. Governor Scott and his economic development team at Enterprise Florida Inc. and the Osceola County Economic Development Department worked with Colt to bring this project to fruition. State incentives include $250,000 from the Governor’s Quick Action Closing Fund and funds for workforce training. Osceola County is offering additional incentives, including renovation of the building and rent concessions.

“Colt looked at many possible sites across the nation, but we ultimately decided to locate our new facility in the State of Florida,” Gen. Keys said. “Florida offered a strong pro-business incentive package. Coupled with the low cost of doing business in Florida and a favorable regulatory environment, opening this new facility was very attractive to us. Governor Scott’s personal commitment to both Colt’s growth plan and America’s right to bear arms was instrumental in our decision.”

“Attracting an American icon like Colt, which is one of the world’s top brands, is a real coup for our economic development efforts,” said Commission Chairman John Quinones. “Beyond creating new, high-wage jobs, Colt is going to be a great asset to our community.”

“Colt’s expansion to Osceola County is a perfect fit for the region,” said Dr. Sanford Shugart, president of Valencia College, which will design a specialized training program for the company. “Valencia College stands ready to deliver the best trained, best educated workforce possible. We welcome Colt’s Manufacturing Company to Osceola County and commit to partnering with them and serving their employees and families for many years to come.”

Washington, DC /Florida Newswire/ — The U.S. Chemical Safety Board (CSB) today announced it has declared Florida’s inaction and failure to adopt a CSB recommendation to provide federal-level workplace protections for state and municipal public workers an “Unacceptable Response.” It is the first time that a CSB recommendation issued to a state and its legislature has been closed due to an unacceptable response by the recipient. At the same time, CSB Chairman Rafael Moure-Eraso called on the state to reconsider legislation that would provide adequate workplace protection for public employees.
The recommendation was originally issued by the CSB presidentially-appointed board in 2007 following an extensive investigation into a January 11, 2006, methanol fire and explosion at the Bethune Wastewater Treatment plant in Daytona Beach that killed two public employees and seriously injured a third.

Sparks from a welding torch used by Daytona Beach city workers above a tank of methanol ignited vapors that exploded. The CSB found that the if the city had implemented hot work and hazardous communication (HAZCOM) programs conforming to Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) safety standards, “the hazards of using a torch in proximity to the methanol tank would likely have been identified and possibly prevented.” In Florida, OSHA safety and health protections apply to private employees, but not public employees, even though many such workers perform potentially hazardous work.

In a letter to Florida Governor Rick Scott, CSB Chairman Rafael Moure-Eraso noted that in recent years, proposed legislation to provide workplace protections for public workers had been strongly supported by a broad coalition of trade groups, businesses, and unions but failed to pass in 2009 and 2010. “Since no bill to secure health and safety protections for Florida’s public employees was introduced during the 2011 legislative sessions, the Board has concluded that neither you nor the State Legislature intend to take action to implement the CSB’s recommendations.”

Chairman Moure-Eraso urged state officials to take up the recommendation anew, saying in the letter to Governor Scott, “The Board maintains that implementation of these recommendations is necessary to secure the health and safety of Florida’s public employees. We therefore strongly encourage you and your colleagues in the state legislature to reconsider the CSB’s recommendations.”

Chairman Moure-Eraso said, “Florida’s inaction is unacceptable as it means public employees doing potentially hazardous work have inadequate workplace protections – which they would have if they were private-sector workers. The CSB has found that currently 27 states and jurisdictions operate safety and health programs for their public employees. There can be little doubt that these basic workplace standards help prevent accidents and save lives in those states.”

The CSB’s Bethune investigation found that in addition to the accident that occurred at the wastewater treatment plant in Daytona Beach, 33 other chemical-related incidents had occurred in Florida from 2003 to 2007. These incidents all involved chemicals that would be covered by the federal OSHA hazard communication regulations.

The CSB is an independent federal agency charged with investigating industrial chemical accidents. The agency’s board members are appointed by the president and confirmed by the Senate. CSB investigations look into all aspects of chemical accidents, including physical causes such as equipment failure as well as inadequacies in regulations, industry standards, and safety management systems.

The Board does not issue citations or fines but does make safety recommendations to plants, industry organizations, labor groups, and regulatory agencies such as OSHA and EPA.

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. /Florida Newswire/ — Florida Governor Rick Scott today announced that Bing Energy Inc. (BEI) of Chino, California has selected Florida as the new site of the company’s world headquarters. BEI, in collaboration with Florida State University (FSU) Dr. Jim P. Zheng, is planning to turn revolutionary nanotechnology pioneered at FSU into a better, faster, more economical and commercially viable fuel cell. The move is expected to create at least 244 jobs paying an average wage of $41,655 in Florida.

“I am proud to welcome Bing Energy and thank them for recognizing that Florida is the best state in the nation. As Governor I am continuing to make it the best place to do business. This is only the beginning,” said Gov. Scott. “Just as Bing Energy was convinced to bring jobs here, I am talking to companies across the nation. I am letting them know that our reduction in the business tax burden, commitment to job creation, and Florida’s world-class workforce mean we are open for business.”

Bing Energy Inc. is moving its global headquarters to Tallahassee to work in partnership with Dr. Jim P. Zheng, who has pioneered a fuel cell that incorporates a thin membrane composed of carbon nanotubes, reducing the need for expensive platinum components that, until now, have made fuel cells too expensive to be widely marketed. Dr. Zheng’s technology is based on pioneering research and development of buckypaper conducted at FSU’s High-Performance Materials Institute. The institute’s director, Dr. Ben Wang, is the assistant vice president for research at Florida State University.

Bing Energy’s innovation promises to produce a fuel cell that is more efficient, more durable and significantly less expensive – benefits that could transform the transportation and power generation sectors.

Joining Governor Scott in celebrating Bing Energy’s move to Florida were Bing Energy Inc. CFO Dean Minardi, FSU President Eric J. Barron, Mayor John Marks, and representatives from the Economic Development Council of Tallahassee/Leon County Inc.

“We all know the world’s existing energy use pattern is unsustainable,” said Minardi. “A commercially viable fuel cell will transform the way we drive, reducing our dependence on fossil fuels. It will transform the way we deliver energy to neighborhoods, ensuring reliability and eliminating the risk of brownouts.”

Bing Energy Inc.’s move to Florida is tied to a $1.9 million award they received from the Governor’s Office of Tourism, Trade and Economic Development. The award is a Qualified Target Industry Tax Refund in support of job creation. The local Tallahassee and Leon County governments are also supporting Bing Energy Inc. by each providing a 10 percent match on the QTI Award.

Governor Scott has made creating jobs his top priority. As governor, he plans to create 700,000 jobs in the next seven years by implementing accountability budgeting, reducing government spending, enacting regulatory reform, focusing on job growth and retention, investing in world class state universities, reducing property taxes and phasing out the business income tax.

About Bing Energy Inc:

Bing Energy Inc., a manufacturer of state-of-the-art components for polymer electrolyte membrane fuel cells, will begin production in March of 2011 and serve the domestic and international energy markets.

FORT LAUDERDALE /Florida Newswire/ — Florida RV company Allstar Coaches was featured on Monday night’s episode of ABC’s “The Bachelor: On the Wings of Love.” Nine gorgeous women, all competing for the love and affection of Bachelor Jake Pavelka piled into the waiting Allstar RVs for a road trip up the beautiful California coast. With stopovers at a Santa Ynez vineyard, the dunes of Pismo Beach and the towering redwoods of Big Sur, the scenery was almost intense as the drama.

In addition to providing the RVs, Allstar co-owners Rob Tischler and Robert Lemon assisted with planning and logistics and also doubled up as drivers for the show. “We took these coaches to so many great places, but to caravan them over the sand dunes and drive them down the beach was just over the top!” said Tischler. “Now there really are no limits where one can go with an RV,” he added.

Allstar Coaches was chosen because “they had the nicest RV rentals we could find,” said Herbert Weatherford, one of the producers of the show.

“Allstar’s staff was great and fit in seamlessly with our crew. Their expertise in RV travel and operations were invaluable to this production, and quite frankly we could not have pulled this off without them,” added Weatherford.

Television networks and film crews have been taking notice of the RV industry, cashing in on the growing popularity of RVing. RVs not only offer the public all the comforts of home while on the road, but can also serve as mobile production offices in the most remote of locations. Equipped with the latest technology and custom-designed utilizing the finest materials available, these state-of-the-art motorhomes are extremely versatile.

FT LAUDERDALE /Florida Newswire/ -– Governor Charlie Crist today, as part of his continued focus on strengthening Florida’s economy, welcomed small business owners and Florida Small Business Development Center stakeholders for a roundtable discussion on how to enhance Florida’s economy. During the roundtable, Governor Crist emphasized his commitment to keeping Florida as business-friendly as possible.

“Entrepreneurs in Florida’s small business community have the greatest potential for turning our economy around,” said Governor Crist. “They are such a large component of Florida’s economic strength and I remain committed to continuing to foster a business-friendly environment and keep this vital economic engine thriving and prospering.”

The Florida Small Business Development Center Network (FSBDCN) is a statewide partnership of economic development organizations, chambers, institutions of higher learning and other partners committed to the small business community in Florida. The program, funded in 1976 by the U.S. Small Business Administration and hosted by the University of West Florida, collaborates with state college and universities to aid and educate small business owners and entrepreneurs. The FSBDCN has expanded to a statewide network of 33 centers after starting with just two during its first year of operation.

The Governor applauded FSBDCN for their commitment to fostering an entrepreneurial spirit in Florida. The network provides workshops and counseling across the state for small businesses. For more information on FSBDCN please visit www.FloridaSBDC.org.

The Governor was joined by:

· Michael J. Donnelly, Owner, Beacon Management Consultants and FSBDCN’s Statewide Advisory Board Chair

· Rafael Cruz, Regional Director, SBDC in Broward

· Rosana Santos, Big Chef

· Manuel Aguiar, Mach Construction Company, Inc.

· Berry Lamy, Just for Kids Tutoring Services, Inc.

· Mark Llano, Source One Distributors, Inc.

· Norman Taylor, Director – Broward County Economic Development

· Robert Swindell , VP – Broward Alliance

· Stella Tokar , President – Miramar – Pembroke Pines Chamber of Commerce

· Norman Seavers , VP, Broward College, Economic Development and Entrepreneur Institutes

Yesterday, the Governor participated in the Greater Miami and the Beaches Hotel Association’s annual meeting. During the meeting, Governor Crist applauded the economic benefits of the tourism industry to the state. Florida is home to more than 1.9 million small businesses, many of which are represented in the hospitality and construction industry. Statewide, the hospitality and construction industry contribute more than $84.3 billion to Florida’s gross state product, with nearly 128,000 businesses employing more than 1.47 million Floridians.

Governor Charlie Crist kicked off Florida Small Business Month by attending the opening of the Waldorf Astoria Orlando. The Governor will continue to highlight the impact Florida’s small businesses have on the economy and examine opportunities to help small businesses grow throughout October. This year, the American City Business Journal ranked three Florida cities among the top 20 best areas for small business vitality, including Orlando which ranked number seven. Last year, the Small Business Survival Index ranked Florida the fourth friendliest state for entrepreneurship.

FORT LAUDERDALE /Florida Newswire/ — Cadence Keen Innovations (CKI), a leading inventor and provider of sleep solutions, announces the introduction of Bed MadeEZ(TM), a new patent-pending device designed to effortlessly lift a mattress while changing linens. Bed MadeEZ utilizes a unique wedge-shaped, ergonomic design that easily inserts between the mattress and the box spring, creating an automatic lift as it slides in. The mattress then rests in a raised position, eliminating the need for repeated lifting as the linens are changed. This innovative device has been proven to alleviate back strain and is applauded by leading doctors, chiropractors and ergonomic specialists.

“The Bed MadeEZ is a simple solution that solves a large and growing problem,” stated Sam Montross, founder and president of Cadence Keen Innovations. “The up-scaling trend in mattress manufacturing has led to a proliferation of thicker, heavier mattresses. Many of today’s mattresses are in excess of 150 lbs., creating difficulty and risk when changing linens. The Bed MadeEZ was designed to reduce the back, shoulder and neck pain associated with the repeated lifting of these heavy mattresses.”

According to Dr. Thomas Cowell, a Certified Chiropractic Physician and an active member of the Florida Chiropractic Association, “The lifting of mattresses to remove or tuck in linens combined with bending foreword and twisting puts the lower back in its weakest position and can often times aggravate the lumbar spine and the sacroiliac joint in the pelvis. The Bed MadeEZ is a unique device that can significantly reduce the physical stress on the lower back muscles while making a bed.”

Improper bed making is known to be a contributing factor in the back pain experienced by 85 percent of the population and a growing concern for the aging 78 million baby boomers, 6 million pregnant women (pregnant women are restricted to lift over 25 lbs.), and 11 million disabled adults that utilize health and mobility aids to live an independent lifestyle.

“With over 8,000 baby boomers turning 60 every day and an existing 66 million already suffering from arthritis and osteoporosis, the Bed MadeEZ is not only a much needed product for those already suffering with back pain, but it is also a good way to prevent injuries in the first place,” states Montross. “It also makes the chore much quicker and easier for those who just hate making the bed!”

Additional benefits of Bed MadeEZ include:
* Automatic lift as the device is inserted between the mattress and box spring.
* A sturdy 2-inch-wide base on which the mattress can rest after insertion, allowing plenty of room for the hands to move under the mattress to change linens.
* The ergonomically shaped, rubberized handle allows one to grasp the handle at multiple positions for maximum grip and comfort.
* The tapered, duck-bill tip tucks in linens with ease and can even be used without lifting the mattress at all.
* The tough, injection molded plastic withstands weight in excess of 250 lbs.
* The smoothly rounded surfaces ensure no tearing or damage to mattress or bedding.

Since production on the patent-pending Bed MadeEZ has begun, CKI has sold over 5,000 units.
