NEW ORLEANS, La., Aug 15, 2019 (SEND2PRESS NEWSWIRE) — Louisiana Appleseed recently released its report, “A Vicious Cycle: How Predatory Lending and Court Fines & Fees Continue to Trap Communities of Color in Debt,” which discusses its findings on financial stability in low-income and communities of color. As a part of a statewide tour to inform communities of these issues, Louisiana Appleseed is now taking these findings to Shreveport.

Louisiana Appleseed will host a community forum to listen to residents’ current debt problems, discuss findings outlined in “A Vicious Cycle,” and highlight current materials available to increase financial stability.

This meeting will take place on Monday, August 19, 2019 at the Shreve Memorial Library Cedar Grove / Line Ave. Branch at 8303 Line Ave. in Shreveport from 1:30 p.m. to 3:30 p.m.

This meeting is FREE and open to the public. Light refreshments will be served. You can register to attend the event on our Facebook page or by using the following link: https://www.eventbrite.com/e/louisiana-appleseed-community-forum-to-address-household-debt-tickets-66271452699.

“A Vicious Cycle” provides important information on the factors contributing to the racial inequities that prevent wealth generation in communities of color. Long-term consequences of resorting to high-cost financial products often perpetuates a cycle of crippling debt that compounds financial insecurity and entrenches families and communities in poverty.

The report also highlights how low-income people of color also are trapped by harmful debt through the imposition of court fines and fees. By shedding light on these issues, Louisiana Appleseed empowers families with the knowledge of how to avoid some debt traps.
